I have compiled 8 weight loss tips in this post and I even interviewed someone who has been through this journey! Bryn, over at @Getfitwithbryn on Instagram and BryndisHill on Youtube!
She has such an inspiring story and I have been watching her journey on Youtube for a while. She talks about her weight loss journey, including exercise and meals she eats. She is 100 pounds down, naturally! Whew – you go girl!
Bryn grew up in small town in Washington, small town vibe where everyone knows everyone! Besides fitness, Bryn loves music and choir, she even played guitar and sings. Bryn has an older brother who helped her to stay motivated throughout her weight loss journey, as he went through the same stress of overeating and depression during his life. Bryn goes to the gym with her brother and works hard to keep up in her journey, which is more like a lifestyle!
During my interview with Bryn she reports she struggled her whole life with her weight. When she got to middle school she struggled even more. However, she did play sports in school but was still overweight. Bryn mentioned while she played sports someone close to her would say “you’re losing weight”. This led to the start of her bad relationship with food, she would even skip meals sometimes.
When Bryn was in high school, she was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease and started eating more food. She didn’t know much about this disease as she was only 14 years old when diagnosed. She even missed a semester of school with being diagnosed with Chron’s Disease because of her symptoms. With this disease Bryn had to eat a certain way and was on medication. She had to take a shot in her leg every week, which was a 4-hour long infusion every 8 weeks.
Having Chron’s coupled with being overweight, Bryn’s highest weight was 310 pounds. She had joint pain because of being overweight, and wasn’t able to move much. Her biggest motivation to get healthy and begin her weight loss journey was to live a better life and work because her disease had affected having a job. Bryn mentioned she only wore leggings for two years because it was difficult to wear anything else. She felt like she wasn’t living a life that she wanted to live.
And so she made a change!
After hearing this story, I was super excited to learn more about Bryn’s weight loss tips and what she did to accomplish losing 100 pounds! She gave me some incredibly incredible tips for this post on effective weight loss tips for millennials! Check them out below!
Tip #1.look at it more as lifestyle change!
Weight loss should be done in a healthy and safe way, look at it more as lifestyle change that will help you meet you goals and sustain them! We’ve all heard of the fad diets that people usually gain all of the weight back after over restricting themselves on. Take it slow and steady!
Tip #2. Drink more water!
(Bryn never really drank water before her journey, she reports that water helps digest and gives you more energy, her extra tip on this is whenever you see your water, take 10 chugs. She drank a gallon or more per day!)
She also mentioned you should buy a Hydro flask – bigger one to not have to fill it up as much throughout the day! I’ve linked a couple different sizes to chose from, from Amazon!
Tip #3. Cook your own meals!
Bryn mentioned it was a social thing for her to eat out, but cooking her own meals was a must! We all know eating out is a major reason for weight gain. Bryn’s go to meal: Roasted veggies cooked on top of the stove. She adds garlic, onions, red pepper, ground turkey, spinach, mushrooms, and sometimes avocado. You can make it as a breakfast too throw in some eggs! She use these veggies in lots of meals!
Cooking at home lets you know exactly what is in the food you’re consuming and you’re able to cut out unnecessary calories, which leads to weight loss!
Here are some items that can get you started or just to spruce up your cook ware!
Tip #4. Cut out/limit dairy to see how your body reacts!
(Bryn mentioned she is lactose intolerant so the first month of cutting out dairy, she looked less heavy and her skin improved!).
*This tip may not apply to you but try it out and see how it affects your body!
Tip #5. Get your body moving/Exercise!
(Bryn reports she exercised throughout her journey, she started off with cardio for two weeks and then got into weight lifting. She now focuses more on weight lifting because building muscle is important, it can burn more fat than just doing cardio. Most women think lifting weights will get you bulky, it won’t! It builds muscle which in turn burns fat.
Bryn also now has a trainer who aids in her weight loss journey. (info for this training agency listed below) Walking more, just in your neighborhood is perfect. Bryn said as a nanny, she would take walks with kids to get her body moving some more!
– Bryn works out with a training company and they have a coupon for half off on your first month of training. They are called Team8fitness. They are all virtual! Check it out!
Here are some cute work out clothes to motivate you in the gym, on a walk, or even during your at home workouts!
Tip #6. Follow other fitness accounts on social media!
Following other individual’s journey can keep you motivated and provide you with new workouts to incorporate into your routine! They may also have some effective weight loss tips for you to follow. Bryn has a fitness page by the way! @GetfitwithBryn follow her for some motivation!
Tip #7.Believe in yourself!
(Bryn told me she fully believed in herself throughout her journey!)
Believe that you can do it can keep your mindset positive and pushes you to get to the next level!
Tip #8. Count your daily intake calories!
This is a tip that I personally live by! Counting calories is the most effective way to lose weight! It is a proven scientific fact. This is my favorite tip because it actually works and is the only real way to lose weight without having to workout 2,958 hours a day to burn off those extra calories consumed.
If you are in a caloric deficit you WILL lose weight. To determine the calorie deficit YOU should be in use the website https://www.fatcalc.com/rwl. It is different for everyone, takes about 1 minute to complete to get the calories you should be taking in to meet your weightless goals!
Bryn suggested eating the same meals often to know the calories if you don’t want to calculate new foods each day.
Tip #8. Take progress pictures!
Bryn suggests taking photos of yourself to track your progress. You don’t need to show anyone, you can keep it for yourself. I love this tip because sometimes we don’t realize we may have made a change because the scale doesn’t move which really we may have lost a few inches! Bryn took a bunch of photos which I’ve included some in this post so you can see how extreme and amazing her lifestyle change has taken her to new levels!
Bonus tips Bryn gave me for my readers!
- If you ever feel like quitting, it is important to remember why you wanted to reach the goal, why it’s important, and reflect on that.
- Learn to eat intuitively. Her goals is to eat 3 meals per day that have all 3 macros, proteins, fat, and carbs.
- Be nice to yourself, if you mess up at any point, get back up and keep going!
- Bryn says it’s easier now because she thinks more positively and she is her number one fan!
- Bring your food with you on the go, and make enough for two meals to take with you if you ever have somewhere to be where you can’t get a healthy meal.
One of Bryn’s favorite easy to grab and healthy snacks!
–Cliff builders bars: they are gluten and dairy free, mint chocolate. I’ve linked these specific ones if you’d like to try it!
Bryn also left me with an Amazing quote:
“Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right”.
Leave a comment if you loved these tips or will incorporate any of them into your routine! Thank you for reading!
