Do you need tips for how to plan your week out and have productive days? Well this is the post for you! I have been having so many productive days this past year and it is because I learned how to plan my week.
These are the best tips to help you stay on track throughout the week. These tips are for anyone who has a schedule to keep, which I feel we all do. There is always something we have going on and need to plan to be available for. These tips are life changing because they can keep you accountable, provide you with time for yourself and still help you to have a productive day.
This post is all about tips for how to plan your week and how to have a productive day!
1. Use a planner!
I know this tip for how to plan your week may seem so obvious, but it is really important to be able to see the things you have to do. It can be in a physical planner or you can use some sort of calendar system on your phone or laptop. whatever is easiest for you to be consistent with.
I use my computer and phone to plan things out on my calendars for work and a personal calendar. This allows me to be productive throughout the week because I know what needs to be done, which is always number 1. know what you have to do, how else can you get it done? 🙂
Here’s a planner from Amazon that may be helpful for you if you’re looking to purchase a physical calendar/planner.
2. Set time aside for ‘un-productive’ activities!
Learning how to plan your week means being aware of the times during your week that you WILL need some down time or time to do something that has not much value, if you will lol. So why not schedule these ‘un-productive’ activities so you don’t go overboard? Things that may seem unproductive are things like watching television, scrolling through social media, or anything not specifically important to your goals.
This of course does not include the time we need to set aside for self care or mental health moments, you know yourself best and can make that distinction. Make sure to put these unproductive activities on your personal calendar so you can be mindful of the time you have.
3. Wake up 30 minutes before your alarm!
Waking up early is almost always essential when your want to learn to plan your week, consistently of course. This extra 30 minutes can provide you with some time to plan, get started on your workout earlier, or do things you did not finish the night before such as dishes, laundry, etc. Planning out to be up 30 minutes before your alarm can become contingent on whether you have a productive day or not, which I like the idea of! It is said to be true that if you do something consistently enough for 8 weeks it becomes a habit, let this be one of your habits.
If you wake up 30 minutes before your alarm if can give you time to get things done or time for yourself, however, it also is not so extreme that you feel robbed of your oh so precious sleep time 🙂
4. Organize tasks for the week!
To plan your week with essential tasks in mind, you need to organize them out in categories of importance. So for example when you plan a week out in your calendar and you have multiple things to do in one day, you will need to order them in a way that lets you know what needs to be done first second or last, this is all dependent on what your daily task needs are, of course. You can use your calendar to do this, or you can separate it out on another part of your calendar or in your notes app on your phone. This can help you to stay on tasks even while trying to be efficient with your week.
This tip for how to plan your week is super important, and I think one of the tips we can get stuck on when trying to have a productive week. How many times have you made a to do list and completed things in the most non-essential order? The best way to keep your day productive while planning your week is to make sure to not skips this step!
5. Set reminders!
I find it is imperative to set reminders for tasks throughout the week, when I get an email or a text with something I need to address I almost instantly forget because I am doing something else at the moment. Setting a reminder for what may come up unexpectedly or even for things you have planned can make certain you do not forget to complete it.
You can set up reminders easily on your phone or in your calendar, which will alert you however much time in advance you find necessary for you. Reminders can be life changing in our busy lives, we don’t use them enough! Give it a try!
6. Follow a routine!
Following a routine is related to how to plan your week for productivity, because if you already know what you need to do and just do it, chances are your days and weeks will go more as planned. There will be less space for confusion and wasted time. Having a routine is crucial when you want to achieve your goals, it does not need to be super elaborate but if you at-least have a routine in place you will see yourself grow exponentially!
Examples of a routine may be: – wake up, – work out – journal, – plan for the day, – look at calendar, – drive to meetings/work etc., – have lunch, – call or text wife or husband, – continue to follow organized tasks, – eat dinner, – send time with family, – sleep. All of this can change due to your day possibly looking different throughout the month, but at least with a routine you know what is next and what the day will mostly look like.
7. Plan ahead!
Planning ahead can take the stress off of you to do things that takes away from your time working or engaging in your planned out tasks for the week. So an example of planning ahead if meal prepping your lunch for the week so you do not have to worry about it. Or making calendar for you and your spouse for what the month of dinners will consist of so you spend less time arguing about what you should eat. These can be simple things, but having a plan can keep things in order and create a happy life.
